Amit Shah urges Trainee IPS Officers to prioritize citizen safety
Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers in New Delhi, urging them to prioritize citizen safety and rights. He emphasized the need for a strict approach to eliminate anti-national activities. During his speech to the 76th batch of IPS officers, he highlighted the importance of protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, including the poor, children, and women.
Shah reminded the young officers that their biggest achievement as district police chiefs would be how well they are remembered by the community for their good work. He stressed that officers must keep national security in mind while performing their duties. “All the young officers will have to work with a ruthless approach to eliminate anti-national activities,” he said.

Importance of responsibility and change
Amit Shah also encouraged the probationers to reflect on their new roles and the responsibilities they carry. He noted that their batch has a greater duty compared to previous ones. Their actions could lead to a new era in policing, shaping the future of law enforcement in India.
He reassured the officers that no one would dare to disrespect the nation's borders or armed forces. Amit Shah stated that significant progress has been made in reducing violence in conflict areas like Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and regions affected by left-wing extremism. He mentioned that violence has decreased by 70% in these areas, thanks to effective security measures.
Shah concluded by saying that the police must be proactive in safeguarding the fundamental rights of citizens. He emphasized that national security goes beyond border protection; it starts with the safety of citizens.
The IPS 2023 batch consists of 188 officer trainees, including 54 women. They have completed their basic training and will soon begin practical training in their assigned districts after two weeks with various Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations in Delhi.
